The in-app Video Selfie is the best and most effective method to recover your Instagram account. It is not guaranteed, however. You'll want to follow these instructions to begin the IG account recovery process: ﻿

Go to the Instagram app main sign in page - you might need to click on "Log into another account" if you're taken to the quick sign in page (use the current username of the account; pay special attention if the hacker changes your original username slightly)

Add in your current username first and Tap on "Forgot Password?" (iOS) or "Get help logging in" (Android) --&gt; NEXT

You will be taken to a screen which shows the current contact methods 

1. Most often, the email/phone will likely be whatever the hacker has changed them to
2. If you see YOUR contact info on this screen, tap the method which you believe is correct and send yourself the code. If you receive it, follow the steps and enter the code/click the link you received, and reset your password.
   1. If you do NOT recognize any of the contact methods on this first screen... 

Then Tap "Can't Reset Your Password?"

The next screen should present some of your Original Contact information, Select a method which seems like yours, and tap NEXT

1. This 2nd screen may or may not appear (it's different for everyone). 
2. If you see additional contact methods on THIS screen, again, see if any of them look like yours and if so, send yourself the code/link and follow the instructions once you receive them. 
3. If you still do not see any valid contact methods, Tap Tap "Can't Reset Your Password?" (again). Skip to Step 7

If you receive the code, Enter it in and Tap Next; you might be asked to enter a DIFFERENT code (from an Authenticator app), which only the hacker has. That's okay...

1. Tap "Try Another Way" under the "Next" button

Tap “Get Support" and then "My account was hacked."

Then choose "I have photos of myself in my account"

You'll be asked to enter a valid email address, and they will send you a code. 

1. Once you enter this code, you'll be taken to the Video Selfie

 3. If you still do not see any valid contact methods, Tap Tap "Can't Reset Your Password?" (again). Skip to Step 7
6. If you receive the code, Enter it in and Tap Next; you might be asked to enter a DIFFERENT code (from an Authenticator app), which only the hacker has. That's okay...
 1. Tap "Try Another Way" under the "Next" button

8. Then choose "I have photos of myself in my account"
9. You'll be asked to enter a valid email address, and they will send you a code. 
 1. Once you enter this code, you'll be taken to the Video Selfie

Bam. Then wait 3-4 days for IG to review it, and let us know how it goes. While you're waiting, it cannot hurt to also submit the Report an Impersonation Form.
