The idea of a hacked device can certainly be concerning, and unfortunately, this is becoming more commonplace than it used to be. Hackers can gain access to your information in several different ways, but most require action to be taken on your part. Here are just a few examples of actions to avoid:

  • Downloading suspicious software/applications

  • Using unsecured or public wifi networks

  • Clicking on a link from an unknown sender

While Cyrus currently offers Bank Account Protection, Online Account Protection and Credit Monitoring, we're always working to build a more comprehensive solution to further protect your devices. In the meantime, here are a few simple things you can do to keep yourself and your information protected:

  1. Delete all suspicious software and applications. Make sure you’re only using software from trustworthy developers. We recommend reading the reviews in the app store when available.

  2. Change all your passwords, and make sure your most-used accounts have the strongest passwords possible. Try storing your passwords in a secure place, instead of saving them to your device. Don't respond to any password reset notifications you didn't personally request.

  3. If you believe your email or phone contacts have also been compromised, go ahead and reach out to everyone to advise them of potential threats. You’ll want to ensure no one clicks on any malicious links sent by a hacker pretending to be you.

  4. Complete a factory reset on your device. Though this usually means you’ll no longer have access to the important information on your device (contacts, notes, photos, passwords, etc.), neither will the hacker. If possible, back up your device’s data before resetting it to prevent a total loss.

When it comes to device security, you will almost never know if your information has been compromised until it is too late. That being said, if you feel as though something seems off with your device, your gut intuition is probably right. Knowing the signs and taking the necessary precautions will always be a great first line of defense. Of course, if you have any questions along the way or just want some extra peace of mind, don't hesitate to reach out to us through your Cyrus app or at [email protected].
